LOL, in the morning

This weeks Humour Topic: COURT ROOM QUIPS (last week!)

Thanks to Conor from the UK for this submission:

Most language is spoken language, and most words, once they are uttered, vanish forever into the air. But such is not the case with language spoken during courtroom trials, for there exists an army of courtroom reporters whose job it is to take down and preserve every statement made during the proceedings.

Mary Louise Gilman, the venerable editor of the National Shorthand Reporter has collected many of the more hilarious courtroom bloopers in two books – Humor in the Court (1977) and More Humor in the Court, published a few months ago. From Mrs. Gilman’s two volumes, here are some of my favorite transquips, all recorded by America’s keepers of the word:

Q. Do you drink when you’re on duty?
A. I don’t drink when I’m on duty, unless I came on duty drunk.
Q. Any suggestion as to what prevented this from being a murder trial instead of an attempted murder trial?
A. The victim lived.
Q. Mrs. Jones, is your appearance this morning pursuant to a deposition notice which I sent to your attorney?
A. No. this is how I dress when I go to work.

If you see something worth a good laugh, please send it to sej@success.ie with the subject header LOL.

TIPS FROM THE TOP! With Wayne R. Morrison of Pinnacle Achievements

TIP#13 VALUES

Have you ever had a specific goal in your life that you were certain you wanted, but for some reason you behaved in a way that was counter productive to the goal? If you are like most of us, you answered yes. Have you ever wondered why this happens? Well, would you believe the answer is really quite simple? In order to answer this phenomena though, we first must examine our behavior.

Why do we behave the way we do, and what determines our behavior? The answer is, our values. Values are what governs all of our behavior. What is a value? A value is simply what is important to us in life. For example, if you work, you work for specific values (i.e. freedom, happiness, profit, teamwork, etc…) If you like your job, then it is highly likely that your values are being fulfilled. If you do not enjoy your job, then your values are probably not being met.

Now if you are unsure as to what your values actually are, there is an easy way to identify them. Look at your current behavior, and notice what it is getting you in life. This will clarify your values, because we ALWAYS behave in accordance to our values. Where the problem lies, is that sometimes our values are inconsistent or incongruent with what we want to accomplish in life.

For example, when coaching salespeople, I often find that they may value Freedom, and they may value Making Money. Can you see a possible conflict? When these two values are in conflict, the sales persons income usually has more ups and downs in it than a roller coaster. It is only when they identify which value takes precedence, and why that they can begin to achieve a consistent flow of income.

Are you clear as to what your values are in your career? What about your relationships? Or your spirituality? Have you taken the time to clearly identify where you want to be in your life, and what values are necessary in order to achieve those goals? If not, have fun this week gaining clarity on your values.

Until next week, take care, dare, dream, and make each day an epic adventure!

To Your Success,
Wayne R. Morrison

SEMINAR REVIEW – THE SECRET OF CREATING YOUR FUTURE
(Past SEJ book reviews at http://www.success.ie/reviews.html)

I attended this seminar in Vancouver BD a few years ago. It was my first introduction to Tad James.

This is a 3 day seminar and is what I would refer to as “highly spiritual and intuitive goal setting”. The program takes the goals you have set, and ‘installs’ them in your perception of the future. Whether it is because of faith, or because your actions are altered by this ‘installation’ is irrelevant, what is important is that the goals you set do come to pass in an almost mysterious fashion.

I highly recommend this program.

Rating (goals): 4/5

If you are interested in more information on any of the items we have reviewed here, please send any questions you have to sej@success.ie

SEJ’s WORLD, with Eric Edmeades

(Past SEJ’s WORLD articles at http://www.success.ie/sejworld.html)

When was the last time I reviewed my goals? Was it within the past month? Week? Day? Hour? This is an important question to ask yourself.

Also, can you recite your top 10 goals from memory? I hope so.

In my books and Kaizen’s coaching programs we stress the importance of both these questions, and still they elude me from time to time.

Last week, after coaching with a client who was not feeling motivated at work, I discovered something about myself. I was ‘caught up’ with my daily responsibilities, and while I was still on track with most of my goals, I was behind on others. You see, my client was having a lack of motivation for two reasons. One was that his work was not meeting with his purpose in life. I assisted him to breakthrough both of these challenges, and as a result I learned a great deal about myself.

First, I am happy to report my position with Kaizen, and SEJ both fit with my purpose in life with remarkable accuracy. Second, I had stopped checking in with my goals on a daily basis because of my busy schedule. Immediately following the session, I picked my box full of goals, (I keep each one on a recipe card in a box on my desk) and started reading each one. I started to get excited, and I realized that there were some actions that I needed to take immediately. For instance, I had decided to go on Hawaii in August, and had not yet picked which week I would like to travel, so I did. As I worked my way through my goals, I became more and more excited about my future.

Many people set goals, and most can not remember them a few weeks later. Some people set goals only once a year and have discarded them before January is over. It has become clear to me that the most can not remember them a few weeks later. Some people set goals only once a year and have discarded them before January is over. It has become clear to me that the more often you check in your goals and your progress, the more quickly they will come to pass.

So…seize the moment, and seize the day, to infinity and beyond!!

SEJ’ GOES TO ANTHONY ROBBIN’S MASTERY PROGRAM
It appears that a number of members and subscribers are interested in attending MASTERY this year. In fact, our producer and his wife (Eric and Amanda) will be attending on behalf of SEJ and Kaizen and would have to be accompanied by a group of subscribers and members.

We are not affiliated in any way with Anthony Robbins or RRI and do NOT sell any of their programs. Nor do we receive any commissions from them for referred sales.

What we are offering is that we can create a team of members and subscribers that can work together to make it possible to attend. We will attempt to negotiate group rates on tuition and hotels.

Kaizen Technologies would also like to help make it possible for people to attend who may find the tuition financially challenging. We will do this two ways, for one or two people we will be creating scholarship program that is designed to pay full tuition to Life Mastery. (This is open to full-time students) Secondly, for people who do not qualify for the Scholarship, we will attempt to locate or create legitimate ways to create the financial resources to go.

All participants who work with us toward this goal, and attend Mastery will receive a SEJ Care Package to take along. This will include items such as a SEJ tee-shirt and SEJ bag for carrying notebooks etc. to the seminar room.

If you are interested in joining the MASTERY Team, or applying for the Mastery scholarship, please send a message to kaizen@success.ie with the subject header MASTERY.
(For those of you who have already requested information, it will be on its way shortly.)

THE CYBERGYM’s Exercise of the Week

(CYBERGYM ™ is locate at http://www.success.ie/cybergym.html)

WHAT ARE YOUR GOALS?

Right now, without looking at them, say your top 10 goals – out loud.

If you did it, great! You can skip this week’s exercise. If you could not, great! You can do this week’s exercise.

You will need to get your list of goals for this exercise. (assuming you have set goals) Once you have your list of goals in front of you, rewrite the list 3 times.

You should now have three copies of your goals, so next part is simple. Make sure that you keep one list beside your bed so that you can review your goals in the evening and morning. Put another list in the glove-box of your car. If you are stuck in traffic, pull it out and review your goals. Take the third list and give it to your friend, the kind of friend who will remind you of your goals when you need to be reminded.

The more often you review your goals, and see them in your future the more quickly they will come to fruition.

Remember: Do this exercise because: “If you keep on doing what you are doing, you will keep on getting what you are getting.”

P.S. If this exercise leads you to have a positive experience that you would like to share with SEJ, please send it in to sej@success.ie

READER FEEDBACK

(members can subscribe to SEJ Interactive at sej@success.ie)

Seaborn from Louisiana is looking for an essay written by Napoleon Hill, so he sent this is:
Eric, thanks for your call. You asked that I send the information regarding the “Essay of Life” by Napoleon Hill so you could help me find the complete essay. As I recall some of the words, it started with, “Life you can’t subdue me because I have laughter in my soul!” and ended with, “because, ultimately, nothing matters!”

If you have any ideas about where we can find this essay, please send a message to kaizen@success.ie

We offer a big “THANK YOU” to the Over 30% of our subscribers who filled out our on-line questionnaire! There were many suggestions, and lots of praise, again we must thank you. The common comment was regarding reader feedback. Many people suggested that this section should be used for ‘discussion topics’ so that each week we could post questions and responses from the subscribers. Because we are trying to keep SEJ to a ‘short read’ and not everyone will be interested in reading a long series of comments, we can not include this feature. What we have done, is designed a new publication available to all members of SUCCESS.IE, it is called SEJ Interactive. SEJ Interactive will be completely dedicated to interactive conversation between subscribers, and will be the ideal place to answer your success related questions. There will be no other sections included, and it will be sent out each week on Wednesdays. If you are a member, and would like to contribute to, or receive SEJ Interactive please send a message to sej@success.ie (We reserve the right to choose which contributions are included in any of our publications, and all contributors will be credited)

SEJ Interactive Topics this week are:

1) General
2) How to take action now, and prevent procrastination.
3) Constant and Never-ending Improvement.
(If you would like to start a new topic, please send us a message)

Steve fro Louisiana is looking for an essay written by Napoleon Hill, so he sent this in:
Eric, thanks for your call. You asked that I send the information regarding the “Essay of Life” by Napoleon Hill so you could help me find the complete essay. J.S asked us this (perhaps you have an answer):

I work in real estate, and lately I have just not been motivated to make my calls. I have done seminars in the past, which work for a while, but then after a few weeks I am back to being unmotivated.

THIS WEEK’S Quote Contest!
(Now everyone can win!)

Who said this? – we post a quote which you attempt to credit. Please also include a quick statement telling us what the quote means to you.

THIS WEEK’S QUOTE: “People are always blaming circumstances for what they are. I don’t believe in circumstances. The people who get on in this world are the people who get up and look for the circumstances they want, and if they can’t find them, they make them.”

Every Correct Answer will have the choice between these prizes:
1) Free Basic Web Page design and 6 months web space lease; or
2) Free “Basic Achiever” Membership to SUCCESS.IE; or
3) One week of free advertising in S.E.J

LAST WEEK’S WINNERS: (Please tell us which prize you would like!)
Pierre A. Laguerre, Seaborn Wicker, and Greg Burk.

“ If you keep on doing what you are doing, then you will keep on getting what you are getting” – Brian Tracey

This quote can be seen as either negative, or positive and SHOULD be seen as positive. It is a valuable thing to realize that by taking the same small action on a regular basis, we have brought our lives to where they are now, and that we can change those small actions so that in another year our lives will be vastly improved. Success is created by the little things can each of us do on a daily basis to change our destiny? What can you start to do today, and keep doing every day that will achieve one of your goals?

Please send contest submissions to sej@success.ie with subject header “QUOTES”

This publication is sent out, for free, on a weekly basis. Please honour our copyright. While this publication is sent out for free, it is not intended for ‘public domain’. You may post it to any BBS’s, newsgroups or forums provided you post it unchanged including any and all advertisements. If you have any questions, please contact the editor (editor@ericedmeades.com). You may also, (and are encouraged) to manually forward it (unchanged) to people who you feel may have an interest in, or benefit from, receiving this journal.
